4X4 TOUR OF THE DUNES OF MERZOUGA:
After breakfast, we start the road to discover the small villages around the dunes of Erg Chebbi such as Hassi Labied, Merzouga and Khamlia. In Hassi Labied, you will stop in a garden where you can admire the irrigation system of the canal. From there, we will continue the track towards Merzouga.
Near Merzouga, you will have the chance to see Lake Dayet Srji which forms in the spring and attracts flocks of flamingos and wildlife; Bird watchers will appreciate this peaceful area. On the way to Kamlia, we expect to meet some locals showing their desert foxes. You may also encounter desert reptiles and mammals.
In Khamlia, known as the village of Blacks who were slaves coming from Sudan, you will be warmly welcomed with a cup of tea (Whiskey Berber) while enjoying their spiritual Gnawa music. Leaving Khamlia, our next stop is the panoramic view of the golden dunes near the Algerian border. We can stop for a picnic in the shade of a tree before continuing to visit a nomadic family, who live in a Berber tent and take care of their herd of cattle, goats and camels.
You will be introduced to family members and learn about their way of life while enjoying the taste of a great cup of tea. After that, you will have the chance to visit the sites of the black volcanic rocks. Continuing on, you will reach an incredible landscape where you will be surprised by the dune scene in addition to the nearby lake (seasonal) and watch the sunset over the dunes, after returning to your hotel for lunch and relaxation.
